Police arrested two out-of-town men Thursday in connection with buying and selling methamphetamine in Albany.
According to police, here’s what happened:
Officers made a “high-risk” traffic stop on a vehicle at about 5 p.m. near the intersection of Santiam Highway and Main Street.
A high-risk stop is one in police have guns drawn. In this case, police had information on who the driver was. He was arrested without incident.
The intersection was closed for about 15 minutes.
At about 8:23 p.m., police arrested a second man in the Fred Meyer parking lot after chasing him on foot for a short distance.
Police seized about an ounce of meth during the two arrests.
Eddy Farris, 44, of Corvallis was cited and released on charges of possession of meth and delivery of meth.
Juan Carlos Torres, 34, of Salem was lodged in the Linn County Jail also on charges of possession and delivery of meth.
Police Capt. Eric Carter said it’s not unusual for people to come from elsewhere to buy drugs.
“It’s not surprising that we have out-of-town people that come here to conduct drug activity,” he said.
The arrests Thursday were not part of ongoing investigation but developed from information gathered that day.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office assisted with Thursday’s arrests.
