Boys prep basketball: Kauffman keys Sweet Home win

Gabe Kauffman and Colton Emmert combined for 24 points to lead Sweet Home to a 48-37 victory at Yamhill-Carlton.

“We finally put together a game of Huskies basketball,” said assistant coach Tim Matuszak. “We just executed all night long and everybody performed.”

Sweet Home (5-3) will host No. 2 Junction City on Friday.

Santiam Christian bounced back from its loss to Harrisburg in a showdown of 3A powers earlier this week with an easy victory over visiting Chemawa.

Drew Richardson led the second-ranked Eagles with 12 points and Jacob Wonsley added 11.

SC (7-1, 1-1) plays Banks at the Amity tournament on Friday.

East Linn Christian had its chances to put away Kennedy, but let the Trojans off the hook.

The Eagles led 51-49 late in the game but missed the front end of three separate one-and-ones that could have iced the game.

Kennedy’s R.J. Phillips then hit a last-second

3-pointer for the victory.

Michael Kruesi led the Eagles with 19 points.

East Linn (3-6, 1-3 Tri-River Conference) plays Dec. 28 at the Oregon Episcopal School tournament.
