Celebrating 80 years of the A
By Albany Democrat-Herald
Members of the Enduring A’s Model A Ford Club of America celebrated the first International Model A Day with a tour through Albany on Saturday.
The event also marked the 80th birthday of the Model A, if a few months late, members said.
The tour concluded with a gathering of 26 Model As at Nissen Ford in Albany, where onlookers strolled around to admire the gleaming machines.
“We had a lot of people smiling and waving wherever we went,” club member Martin Harding said.
Harding has a 1929 two-door sedan version of a Model A, which his father bought in 1959 for $150. He has no idea how many miles it’s gone, but it has worn through three sets of tires, Harding said.
Ford used the best metal available and made millions of the cars, which means plenty of them are still around and still have available parts, Harding said.
“It’s a very inexpensive car, relatively speaking, for an old car, a special interest car,” he said.
New members are welcome to the club and need only possess an interest in Model As, not necessarily the vehicle itself, Harding said. For more information, contact President Byron Cook, 926-4047.
